Brief Position Summary:
- Assist the Chief Seismic Mechanic and S/L Seismic Mechanics in running the department, including maintenance of the seismic source, and all other equipment within the responsibility of the department. Ensure adherence to, all relevant safety policies and procedures.
Main Tasks
* Ensure that source array is maintained, deployed and operated in accordance with correct practices, and within agreed specifications.
* Assist the Shift Leader in running the department during assigned shift periods and help to develop and train subordinates as necessary. (Trainee Mechanics)
* Provide pertinent feedback to Shift Leader and Chief Mechanic providing reports as necessary. Assist Shift Leader to ensure that all cranes, winches, overhead gantries, and other devices
* and systems used for the handling of seismic equipment are certified, maintained and operated in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and industry standards. Ensure as directed by Shift Leader that consistent logs are maintained at all times.
* Assist the Shift Leader and Chief Mechanic in ensuring that the Mechanical department complies with the HSEQ manual and that audits are conducted as verification. Be aware of, understand, and comply with the Company HSEQ policies.
* Assist in ensuring the department is supporting the overall acquisition process, with particular reference to inter- departmental co-operation including maritime operations. I.e. assist other departments when required to ensure efficient crew operations.
* Ensure stock inventories are maintained and report deficiencies so that sufficient spares/stock levels can be maintained and are available.
Internal relations:
* Shift Leader Mechanic, Chief Mechanic, Party Chief, other departments on board.
External relations:
* On-board Client representatives, Contract personnel, Maritime crew.
Supervision of personnel:
* Assist Shift Leader in the training of new departmental members (Trainee’s)

Technical qualifications:
* Strong understanding of all the systems within the mechanical department. Knowledge of hydraulic systems, High Pressure air systems, and diesel motors. Understanding of lifting and towing operations and certifications.
* Ability to produce clear and accurate written reports. A strong awareness and commitment to QHSE.
* Good command of English, both written and oral.
Experience:
* Experience gained on-board having passed trainee program or Minimum 1 years’ experience with marine seismic 3-D operations, or preferably with 1 years Ocean Bottom Cable experience.
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is desirable.
Personal qualifications
Innovative and able to learn new skills, also able to work unsupervised and under pressure, and a willingness to be part of a team environment.
Physical requirements:
* Good physical fitness and health. The position requires long hours of physical work in a harsh environment aboard the vessel. Ability to carry out work equivalent to lifting and carrying 20 kg weight is a requirement.
Requirement to travel:
* Frequent, worldwide and sometimes on short notice.
Other Requirements:
* Valid passport, applicable visas, and medically fit for work offshore, both physically and psychologically. A good command of English language, both written and oral, is compulsory.
