Administration
Ensure the sufficient time and resources are allocated to execute following activities:
* Maintenance of ship, machinery and equipment.
* Safety meetings, training and drills, including hazardous liquid/chemicals.
* Separation, segregation and proper discharging of polluted mixture sediments.
* If relevant – Follow up the Bridging Document, participate on daily meetings.
Operation
* Navigation and Machinery operation
* Port entry
* Port Stay
* Loading/discharging
* Ballasting
* Bunkering
* Port departure: Readiness for sea
* Ensure that subordinates are aware of their duties and responsibilities.
* All working operations were the vessel- and/or vessels equipment are in use
Following functions shall be conducted safely and professionally in accordance with approved procedures and checklists:
The Master has the authority to abort any operation which he/she consider connected with a greater risk than the risk normally represents.
Positive and negative feedback, both oral and written, must be logged and reported back to the Chartering and Operating department.
In all matters which affect the safe operation of the vessel or protection of the environment, the Master shall report, in the first instance, directly to the duty person in Rem Maritime AS.
Maintenance
* Administrate the Company’s Maintenance and Purchase program
HSEQ
* HSEQ system: Comply fully the requirements in the Company’s HSEQ system, national as well as internationals rules and legislation’s and other precautions currently valid on board.
* Drills: Participate in all drills according to drill matrix.
* HSEQ Activities: Actively take part in HSEQ meetings and programs, Non-conformities reporting etc.
* HSEQ plan: Ensure HSEQ Plan is implemented on board.
Personal
* Certificates: Ensure STCW required certificates, HSE certificates, annual medical, required vaccination and other applicable and Company required certificates are valid at all time.
* HSEQ & Maritime Courses and seminars: Attend as required by the Company.
* In the event that the Captain suspects that any of the crew is intoxicated by Drugs or Alcohol, he shall immediately alert the office. If the vessel is in port, he shall also accompany as soon as practicable possible the person to a doctor for a blood sample. If person in question is not willing to give a blood sample, it shall be recorded that the person refused to do so.
* The Captain shall remind his crew at all HSEQ meeting of Company’s policies on Drugs or Alcohol.
Emergency procedure

* For regular purchases the Company’s purchasing system must be followed.
Administrative Authorities
The Master is authorised to dismiss any of his crewmembers on grounds of incompetence, insubordination and/or alcoholism provided always that the dismissal is in accordance with the personnel policies of the Company.
To ensure the safety of life at sea, health, environmental and material values, including the ship and contractual interest, the Master shall at all times ensure that:
The Master shall keep himself updated on:
* Laws and Regulations issued by competent Authorities and/or Governments and are updated electronically in UniSea RIMS.
* Recommendations from the Classifications Society.
* The Owners instructions and RIMS and that the system is implemented and fully up dated on board, deficiencies found is reported to the Company’s HSEQ Manager
* Tariff conditions that have significance with regard to the performance of his duties as Master
* The ship is fully equipped, well maintained and in all respect seaworthy
* The ship’s crew is competent and well informed of appropriate levels of safety and environmental protection and that the crew receive relevant on-board training to maintain such competence
The seaworthiness of the ship
* Implementing the safety and environmental policy of the company, motivating the crew in the execution of that policy, issuing orders in a clear and concise manner and reviewing safety and pollution prevention activities.
* Reporting deficiencies to the Company and other matters with implications for safe operations or pollution risk and which require the assistance of the Company.
* Appraising and coordinating on board training requirements with the Company.
* Assure that procedure for HSEQ interface to Charterer is followed. (Bridging Document, Safety Meetings)
* Assure that procedures for operational interface to Charter’s operations are followed. (Bridging Document, Safety Meetings)
* Assigning roles to the crew with respect to the Company’s SMS.
* Ensuring that SMS is kept in date by liaising with HSEQ department to arrange audits.
* Review of on-board contingency plans and ship procedures and reporting any deficiencies to the HSEQ department.
* Reporting non-conformities, accidents and hazardous situations to the Company and Charterer.
* Ensuring that all documentation that is designated as “Controlled” is up to date and issued as per Company procedures.
* Requesting assistance from the Company as may be deemed necessary to ensure safe and pollution free operation of the ship.
* Ensuring all records relevant to the SMS and defined in procedures are available.
If an accident has occurred- or threatens to occur- the master shall effectuate action:
* 1. To save life and reduce personal injury
* 2. To minimize the property damage
* 3. To prevent or limit the environmental damage
